REVIEW: SING BY C.D. REISS (SONGS OF SUBMISSION #7)

This is the last book in the series.

Take my hand, my love.
On sinews of air we tread
Aught but distance our guide
With no tempo to our gait
No endpoint drawn
Neither plot nor plan
By the thorns of a compass rose

We bound toward the horizon

---Our Review of Sing---
I ...um...don't really know where to start. It's been a while since I had blown through all but this final book in the series...I mean I sucked that series down like a dehydrated man in the Sahara Desert and was desperate for more. This week. I have done nothing but be controlled by one Mister Drazen...just how he likes it. Life went on and the TBR list got longer and I would look longingly at Sing only to have to put it down to read something else. Finally an opportunity arose (read this as: I decided to cheat and screw the consequences)...and I picked up this final installment because I needed a book to suck me in and not let me go until it was finished with me. This book did that. It so did. I am seriously glad that we discovered this series, and hope that you jump on this bandwagon...because it is a wild ride from start to finish!

The last thing I remembered about book 6 was that Jonathan had basically fallen out at an event. This book starts with him the hospital and it went from sad to heartwrenching. I had keep looking away from the text because I was just so damn upset with the turn of events..and from the little I know about C.D Reiss I would not put it past her to leave me a damaged soul when the series was complete. As I was reading I was doing that thing where I mentally bargain with the author.."so if you just do X, Y,and Z I promise to be the most devoted follower ever....will pimp your books daily...buy you coffee.." Well, you get the picture. I was tortured. C.D. Reiss took me for a ride and at some point I had to buckle in tight and hope to all that is holy that she wouldn't have me crash and burn.

I too have been through the emotional ringer. After everything that we've been through in this series...I am absolutely blown away by the twist and turns that she completed it with. Just insane, really. Totally and completely in awe of C.D. Reiss. I was truly expecting to be completely devastated...and I somewhat was...because even between all of the sad and harrowing things that were happening in the story, the conversations and heart that were in these words completely blew my mind.

That is all. ABSOLUTELY no spilling the beans here. Trust me, now that the entire series is out you need to buy it, take the day off, and READ it like there's no tomorrow. I cannot wait to get my hands on whatever she's writing next. Yes. Forever fan. She is currently my hero, because she put so many layers to this story that it is not just about a hot dominant and a submissive finding her way to how beautiful she is. They're a different couple, but still like is in how they fight, break up, make up...you name it...I loved it.

Can they avoid the mobsters trying to kill them and figure out a way to be together without killing each other?

Our Review

We have been big fans of this series for a long while, and you can search and find lots of love for N.M. Silber here...so we were beyond excited to find out that the Lawyers in Love series was going to continue with Lily and Adam. And can I just say...HOLY SEXY BATMAN! Yes. Just...I was expecting the funny that we got, but I was not expecting how steamy this book was...and it was amazing. Slow clap, N.M. ... slow clap for you my dear...just O_O. (That is a good thing btw)

I don't think I went more than a page without either a huge smirk on my face or laughing out loud. This novel was really entertaining. I bet N.M. Silber is hilarious in real life, too. I want her at my next party.

Lily is a really awesome girl. We already knew she was a great friend to Gabrielle when we met her in the first two series installments, but we found out even more about her. She writes romance novels! And works in a library...even if it was for law. I just loved that about her, and how she always went toe to toe with Adam...well, I could see that they had some serious sexual tension from a mile away...but would they admit it? Big. Fat. NO! Cue hilarity and shenanigans...and somebody get me a fan. Yes. I have a fondness for Lily. She's confident and mouthy and knows what she wants. She found a great match in Adam; those two had some fantastic banter.

Adam was a little tougher nut to crack. He is the epitome of playboy in the first two books, as is Mark...but we find out that he and Lily have known each other since practically birth and definitely their own Bar and Bat Mitzfah's. He is a great lawyer and friend too...and holy shit, he reads. That was almost hotter than how good looking he actually is, unnf, and how dirty he talks. Lubs him. I really enjoyed Adam...but his family stole the show. They were hilarious...I'd almost want a book just on them. So damn funny. But, back to Adam. He's also mouthy and confident and really good for Lily.

N.M. Silber's writing is still fan-freaking-tastic where she creates a fun ensemble cast that makes our hearts warm...but don't think Lily, Gabby and Jess aren't up to their usual insane shenanigans. There is funny neighbor shenanigans, of course some mystery, -dumb-a-bucket-of-ice-water-on-me- hotness (smokin') and some ridiculously sweet times that I enjoyed immensely. Get this one immediately. Please. You will absolutely not regret purchasing this. It's funny and sexy and just an all around entertaining read.

BLOG TOUR: SEX IN THE TITLE BY ZACK LOVE

Tourbannersitt

Synopsis
New York City, May 2000. The Internet bubble has burst and Evan, a computer programmer, is fired with an email from his boss. The next day, his girlfriend dumps him, also via email. Afraid to check any more emails, Evan desperately seeks a rebound romance but the catastrophes that ensue go from bad to hilariously worse.
Fortunately, Evan meets Sammy -- someone whose legendary disasters with females eclipse even his own. To reverse their fortunes, they recruit their friends -- Trevor, Yi, and Carlos -- to form a group of five guys who take on Manhattan in pursuit of dates, sex, and adventure.
When Evan, a closet writer, falls desperately in love with a Hollywood starlet, he schemes to meet her by writing a novel that will sweep her off her feet. Sammy knows nothing about publishing but is confident of one thing: Evan's book should have the word "sex" in the title.
With musings about life, relationships, and human psychology, this quintessential New York story about the search for happiness follows five men on their comical paths to trouble, self-discovery, and love.

“Why do I feel the need to succeed in an art form that’s doomed to extinction?” Evan asked, in despair.
“Just because I don’t read novels doesn’t mean they’re doomed,” said Heeb, as he unwrapped his Snickers bar.
“Look, novels made sense as an entertainment form back in the 1800s, when the closest you could get to a soap opera was Dickens and Balzac. Today, you can get dicks and ball sacks on Internet porn, so even soap operas don’t cut it.”
Heeb was somewhat distracted by his Snickers chocolate bar now. Compared to the hospital food, it seemed to Heeb as if it were the quintessence of pure and natural food – grown organically from the earth and full of goodness for the body and spirit. His mouth began to salivate, just looking at the large bar of chocolate and imagining beneath it the nutty and creamy filling that would provide his mouth with an instant orgasm.
Somewhat pained by the social obligation of having to offer some of this heavenly treat to his neighbor, Heeb extended the bar out to Evan while hoping that Evan would decline. To Heeb’s substantial relief, Evan quickly shook his head, almost irritated with such a frivolous interruption of their all-important discussion.
“You’ve got interactive games, DVDs, Internet, 3D films, and an ever shrinking attention span,” Evan continued, as Heeb proceeded to take an enormous bite of his chocolate bar. “Novels don’t stand a chance against such easy and immediate gratification. These days, people just consume whatever gives them the fastest form of amusement, without any concern for the long-term effects that these empty pleasures may have on their constitution.”
Heeb blissfully focused for a moment on the easy and immediate gratification of his Snickers bar, as he methodically chewed on the large chunk of candy bar that filled most of his mouth. He wasn’t at all concerned about its long-term effects on his constitution.
“Are you listening to me?” snapped Evan, somewhat irked that his neighbor seemed so untroubled by the social and technological trends that would doom literature.
Heeb’s mouth was obviously stuffed, but it was clear that Evan wanted an immediate answer.
“You gotta have sex on the cover,” Heeb blurted out, rather unclearly, with his mouth full.
“Sex under the covers?” Evan asked, trying to make out what Heeb said.
“No. Sex on the cover,” Heeb replied, with his words just as garbled by his glutted mouth.
“Sex undercover? As in, undercover sex?” Evan asked, trying again to decipher what Heeb said, and now impatiently convinced that whatever Heeb was trying to say was going to be an annoyingly irrelevant, inappropriate, or unsatisfying response.
“No.” Heeb shook his head and took a few more bites before trying to speak this time. “You just have to have the word ‘sex’ on the cover.”
“What do you mean?” Evan asked, still not sure that he was hearing Sammy correctly. By now, Sammy had finished most of his chewing and could enunciate properly.
“I mean, the book can be about sex on the covers, sex under the covers, or undercover sex. Or anything else really. It doesn’t matter, as long as you’ve got the word ‘sex’ on the cover.”
“You mean the cover of the book?”
“Yeah. Even better: make sex the first word in the title. Like Sex and the City did.”
“But that was television.”
“It doesn’t matter. If it’s a novel about racecar drivers, call it ‘Sex and Speed.’ Or if it’s a work of historical fiction set in antebellum Texas; call it ‘Sex in the South.’”
Evan looked like a priest hearing sacrilege from a proud atheist for the first time in his pious career.
But the appalled expression on Evan’s face only goaded Heeb on more: “Suppose you’ve written a mystery thriller about an evil scientist who changed his identity into someone totally unknown. Don’t just call it ‘Unknown’; call it ‘Sexual Unknown.’”
“Sexual Unknown?” Evan repeated, incredulously.
“Yeah, that still works.”
“How could that possibly make sense as a title?”
“Look, if the disguised scientist is now generally unknown to people, then he’s probably also sexually unknown to them.”
“You’ve gotta be kidding.”
“OK, maybe that’s not a good example,” Heeb conceded, before continuing, undeterred. “Take a novel about a man’s self-discovery. A good title for it would be something like ‘Sexually Searching Self.’ You get the idea. Just have the word sex in there, and make it prominent enough so that it’s the first thing that people see when they see your book.”
“Sammy, you’re more full of bullshit than a Texas ranch!” Evan exclaimed, in an agitated, high-volume reaction.
“All right, maybe I’m overstating things a little. Look, I’m a math guy, not a literature guy. So I’m looking at this from a purely statistical perspective: all else being equal, your novel is more likely to sell if it has the word ‘sex’ in the title than if it doesn’t. That’s all I’m saying.”

Check out Zack's Comedic Review of Sex in the Title over at Goodreads

Zack Love graduated from Harvard College, where he tried to create a bachelor’s degree in Women. With the bachelor portion of that degree in hand, he settled in New York City but – to afford renting his bed-sized studio – found himself flirting mostly with a computer screen and stacks of documents. Determined not to die a corporate drone, Zack decided to sacrifice sleep for screenwriting, an active social life, and Internet startups offering temporary billion-dollar fantasies.
To feed his steady diet of NYC nightlife, he regularly crashed VIP parties in the early 2000s and twice bumped into his burgeoning crush, a Hollywood starlet. But – much to Zack’s surprise – neither of those awkward conversations led to marriage with the A-list actress. Zack eventually consoled himself by imagining fiascoes far worse than those involving his celebrity crush. In the process, he dreamed up a motley gang of five men inspired by some of his college friends and quirky work colleagues. And thus was born Sex in the Title. But the novel is not autobiographical: Zack never had his third leg attacked by any mammal (nor by any plant, for that matter). In fact, keeping his member safe has been one of Zack’s lifelong goals – and one of the few that he’s managed to accomplish. www.SexInTheTitleBook.com

Excerpt
Chapter 1
Cameron Pierce didn't really know what to expect when the entire nightmare began days before his eighteenth birthday, but here he was, standing behind a large metal door waiting for it to open and grant his freedom. Nine years, eight months, two weeks, and five days of hell. Even though he had to stay in a designated halfway house for the next few months, at least he wouldn't have these bars or barbed wire fences to constantly remind him of his nightmare.
He fidgeted. In exchange for almost ten years of his life, the prison system gave him a hundred bucks for expenses during transfer, and a plain, standard-issue cardboard box containing his personal items—a watch, ten bucks, and a pack of gum. Everything broken or useless, which pretty much mirrored his existence. He ditched the box and everything else then pocketed the cash.
The gears of the large metal door ground as they inched open. Cameron shifted his weight from foot to foot, waiting for just enough space to squeeze through the door. He looked over to the guard and concluded he'd be better off attempting to walk out of this prison with a little dignity. At the pace these doors opened, he figured he'd age another decade in the process. He closed his eyes and counted, begging for a little patience to come his way. He finally heard the grinding stop and opened his eyes.
There, in the middle of the empty parking lot, Sam leaned against a car with crossed arms and a smile.
Cameron groaned as he finally exited the prison gates.
Mr. Samuel Issacs, rehabilitation officer, also secretly campaigned for sainthood every chance he had. His job was to help a group of assigned inmates rejoin the world with others but his mission was to mentor them. Sam wanted to talk, help, and offer support. Cam, on the other hand, knew better than to open his mouth, and he damn sure wasn't going to risk Sam becoming some form of collateral damage.
Cam had learned that lesson the hard way.
"Hey, Sam," he said once he arrived where Sam was parked.
"Hey, Cam. I thought I'd give you a ride to the halfway house instead of having you take the bus," he said as he opened the passenger side door of the car.
Cameron waited, not sure if sitting in a car for hours with Saint Sam was a good idea.
"C'mon, Cam. I can guarantee you the drive with me will be better than a busload of people coming back from Universal Studios with stinky feet and a crapload of gas."
Cameron groaned.
Sam laughed. "Besides, I already filled out the paperwork so you're stuck with me. Get in."
Cam didn't say a word. He climbed into the car, sat in the passenger seat, and then closed the car door.
"Buckle up, it's the law."
"Are you kidding me?"
"Nope, state of Florida, it's the law."
"Since when?"
"Just strap in so we can get out of here."
Cameron groaned again as he pulled the belt and clicked it in place. He hated the way it cut into his damn shoulder. Who knew what else had changed while he was in prison. Just another reminder of things he had missed. He shifted in his seat only to have his movement limited by the seat belt restraint.
Wonderful.
Here he was, finally out of prison, yet somehow still found a way to be constrained in a small enclosed area. Hell, this was even smaller than the six-by-eight cell he’d called home for almost a decade.
How ironic.
