When a psychic tells Natalie Nixon her life is about to be upended by a mysterious stranger, she laughs it off. After all, she has everything she’s ever wanted—a successful bakery, the perfect boyfriend, and the keys to her dream house.
Who could possibly make her want to throw all that away?
Then Miles Haas comes back to town.
But he’s no stranger—they’ve known each other since high school. Plus, he’s only around for the summer, he’s still a shameless playboy, and he makes a living writing articles for a men’s magazine with titles like 'Should You Bang the Boss’s Daughter? A Flowchart' and 'Butt Stuff for Beginners: A Field Guide.'
He’s not the man of her dreams, and she’s not about to abandon everything she’s worked so hard for just for a little fun. Except he makes her laugh like no one else, smells like heaven, and wears panty-melting glasses.
We first got to know Melanie Harlow through her Frenched series and then we saw her take that funny sense of humor and steamy sex scenes and she walloped us in the feels with Some Sort of Happy. Now here we are with Some Sort of Crazy which I would say is somewhere in the middle of those books. It definitely has Harlow's funny dialogue (and don't we love that--that characters can make fun of themselves as much as they make fun of others?). It has those seriously steamy scenes between Natalie and Miles (their dirty mouths are a serious turn on). And bonus: it gives us more glimpses of previous characters (love it when that happens!).
As you can see from the synopsis, Natalie and Miles have been friends for ages and even though their completely drawn to each other, neither of them believes that the other one 'fits' into place in where they are in their lives. So naturally they decide to test the boundaries of their friendship and what happens next results in an interesting few days. It's in the middle of this novel--where things are really starting to happen--that I found myself wanting to know more about Miles and why he was so skittish and also why Natalie was so calm about somethings and wigged out about others and perhaps that's why I didn't get the same gut punch I felt with Sebastion and Skyler. I was less emotionally drained by their experience but I was very curious about what they would do next. And what came next (after a mini-vacation for Natalie) was what made this book stand out. I really REALLY liked what Harlow did at the end. She gave Natalie and Miles a conflict that would push them wayyyy outside of their comfort zones and I liked that she did that and I appreciated how clumsily the characters handled it.
This series appears to have at least one more book in it and I'm very interested in seeing how Harlow finds love for the last sister, Jillian.
