American King, the stunning conclusion to The New Camelot Trilogy by Sierra Simone is LIVE!!

American-King-PRINT-FOR-WEB.jpg
They say that every tragic hero has a fatal flaw, a secret sin, a tiny stitch sewn into his future since birth. And here I am. My sins are no longer secret. My flaws have never been more fatal. And I’ve never been closer to tragedy than I am now.
I am a man who loves, a man whose love demands much in return. I am a king, a king who was foolish enough to build a kingdom on the bones of the past. I am a husband and a lover and a soldier and a father and a president.
And I will survive this.
Long live the king.

REVIEW: Forever Right Now by Emma Scott

Title: Forever Right Now
Author: Emma Scott
Release Date: Tuesday, October 24, 2017
Tagline: “Ours isn’t a romance. It’s a love story.”

OUR REVIEW:

Emma Scott is a writer Court and I only recently started reading and she's made quite an impression. So much of an impression that whenever I see she's releasing a new book I don't even think about it, I know I'm going to buy her book. Why? Because she always gives me interesting characters and I know that it's going to pack an emotional punch. Forever Right Now has both--characters who I felt invested in and a journey to their HEA that gave me a strong case of the feels. Seriously, who tears up at the HEA?! Apparently I do. I was so overwhelmed with happiness for these two...gah.

Not only is Forever Right Now strong with its primary  characters but the secondary characters are equally interesting and ones I'd like to know better (helloooo Jackson). And bonus: we see two characters from a previous work. All of these factors had me reading every free second I had. Whether you're new to Emma Scott or an old fan, I think you're going to enjoy the slow burn, building conflict and tension and story of love in Forever Right Now.

Forever Right Now Blurb:

***STANDALONE new adult romance from the author of The Butterfly Project and the Full Tilt Duet***

Darlene Montgomery has been to hell and back…more than once. After a stint in jail for drug possession, she is finally clean and ready to start over. Yet another failed relationship is just the motivation she needs to move from New York to San Francisco with the hopes of resurrecting her dance career and discovering that she is more than the sum of her rap sheet. As Darlene struggles in her new city, the last thing she wants is to become entangled with her handsome—but cranky—neighbor and his adorable little girl...

Sawyer Haas is weeks away from finishing law school, but exhaustion, dwindling finances, and the pressure to provide for himself and his daughter, Olivia, are wearing him down. A federal clerkship--a job he desperately needs--awaits him after graduation, but only if he passes the Bar Exam. Sawyer doesn’t have the time or patience for the capricious—if beautiful—dancer who moves into the apartment above his. But Darlene’s easy laugh and cheerful spirit seep into the cracks of his hardened heart, and slowly break down the walls he’s resurrected to keep from being betrayed ever again.

When the parents of Olivia’s absentee mother come to fight for custody, Sawyer could lose everything. To have any chance at happiness, he must trust Darlene, the woman who has somehow found her way past his brittle barbs, and Darlene must decide how much of her own bruised heart she is willing to give to Sawyer and Olivia, especially when the ghosts of her troubled past refuse to stay buried.

Forever Right Now Excerpt:

"Who are you?" he demanded rudely, shifting the diaper bag higher on his shoulder while hoisting his little girl in his other arm. He was six feet of hotness in a rumpled suit, glaring at me with suspicion in his dark eyes.

"I...I'm your new neighbor?" It sounded more like a question; as if I needed this guy's permission to live. I straightened to my full height. "I just moved in upstairs. I'm a dancer. Well, I was. Had to take some time off but I'm going to get back into it soon...ish." I put on my friendliest smile. "I'm a massage therapist now. Just got my license and..."

My words died under Sawyer's withering stare.

"A dancer. Fantastic," he said bitterly. "Just what I always wanted. Someone leaping and thumping above me, waking my kid up and disturbing my studies at all hours of the night."

I planted my hands on my hips. "I can't dance in a dinky apartment, and besides..."

Words failed me again as the sharp planes and hard angles of Sawyer's face melted when his daughter--I guessed her to be about a year old--suddenly clapped her small hand over his chin. Sawyer's hard gaze softened, and his broad mouth turned up in a smile--a beautiful smile I was sure only his little girl ever got to see, and so full of love that for a moment I could hardly breathe.

REVIEW: Michael's Wings by Tiffany Reisz

OUR REVIEW:

Fans of The Original Sinners series are going to love this collection that features Michael and Griffin (with looks also at King, Soren, and Nora). It's full of stories that give more detail and insight to their relationship. But really what it's full of is love between the characters and for the characters. You can feel how much Tiffany Reisz loves writing these two. She's created a world with these two that is tender and passionate and full of humor. She's created two people who are absolutely meant for each other. It's with that care for her characters and her attention to detail that she's created legions of fans who would love nothing more than to find themselves inside this world she's created. To find a group of friends and lovers (or lover) who care about you and your well being and nurture your best you.

I can't think of a better time to read Michael's Wings--with temperatures dropping this is the perfect collection to snuggle up with for a weekend of reading.

Small warning--if you've never read the series or aren't finished with it, you may read a few spoilers so consider yourself forewarned.

Griffin has just popped the question—yes, that question—and Michael doesn’t have an answer. He flees town for New Orleans to see his confidante and sometime-Domme, Mistress Nora. Will a weekend of beignets and beatings help him untangle his knotted-up heart?

So begins Michael's Wings, the eponymous novella that kicks off the latest entry in Tiffany Reisz's LAMBDA Literary Award-winning* Original Sinners series.

This companion collection to fan-favorite The Angel also contains six previously-published stories starring Mistress Nora's favorite angel and Griffin—his master, his true love, and the sexy-as-hell bane of Michael's existence.

REVIEW: Ruthless King by Meghan March

BUY IT: AMAZON

OUR REVIEW:

I finished this novel hours ago and I'm pretty much going to stalk Meghan March's social media until I get more;I haven't read a novel this fast in a while--I devoured this thing in a matter of hours. Between parenting and grading and teaching you'd think it'd take days to read but noooo, I took every free second and all of my planning hour to read this freaking book. I couldn't look away from it. I got four freaking hours of sleep and taught all day long on FOUR HOURS OF SLEEP because I would inhale a chapter and then another and another until I realized the time and forced myself to sleep. And then?! I got  up and had breakfast, coffee and even dried my hair with kindle in hand so I could get in every extra word that I could. And you know what's so crazy?! I didn't want to like it because Lachlan was/is such an ass and I hated that Kiera was put in the position she was in ...but I couldn't stop. Their dynamic was like my kryptonite--her spitfire attitude matching up against his alpha-scary-badassery was so damn entertaining. I cheered on her every defiant move and felt for her when she found herself melting against him. GAHHHH. And that ending?!! Consider me hooked. My only quibble is the basement in NOLA---we don't really have those because we're below sea level...but that's a small detail that I easily overlooked.
Someone lock Meghan March to her keyboard until this trilogy is done because I'm dying to know how this all ends up.

New Orleans belongs to me.
You don’t know my name, but I control everything you see—and all the things you don’t.
My reach knows no bounds, and my demands are always met.
I didn’t need to loan money to a failing family distillery, but it amuses me to have them in my debt.
To have her in my debt.
She doesn’t know she caught my attention.
She should’ve been more careful.
I’m going to own her. Consume her. Maybe even keep her.
It’s time to collect what I’m owed.
Keira Kilgore, you’re now the property of Lachlan Mount.

*Ruthless King is book one of the Mount Trilogy*

REVIEW: Move the Stars by Jessica Hawkins

OUR REVIEW:

You guys if you could've only seen my face as I was reading this (or sneak reading it on my planning period), you would've seen some crazy ass reactions to what I was reading. Here's just a small sample:

Throw in a few more WTF faces of me taking deep yoga breaths to get through some sections and you have a good idea of how my reading went.

I had so many emotions. I was so proud of Lake. And also so sad for her. I was so proud of Manning. And so sad for him.
I loved Val.
Loved Corbin.
And I was in complete turmoil during this read.

I vacillated from feeling some serious female empowerment to feeling sucker punched; from feeling a balloon of hope to feeling so bitter or angry. LOTS OF FEELS going on here. That's the beauty of this trilogy. It's hooks you in and it never lets you go. These characters have been living and breathing in my head for months--I've wondered if and how things would be resolved; I wanted answers for them; I wanted apologies and happy endings and confrontations and wrongs to be righted. And you know what? I wanted all of these things because Jessica Hawkins created a Lake and Manning world that was messy and complicated and full of love and passion and emotion.

Move the Stars was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint. This entire series feels like it was a labor of love for Jessica Hawkins--how could it not have been?!--every single book was intense and passionate and heart-wrenching. I love that she never rushed an emotion or a scene and she took the time for these characters to live in spaces they (she) created until it was time for them to move on. I'm so glad she trusted her characters, herself, and us to really develop this story-line in the way that she did; the end result was worth every angsty moment. Even though I don't want the torture of waiting for another book of Lake and Manning, I will truly miss the experience of reading about their lives now that it's over. Thank you, Jessica Hawkins, for enthralling me with the Something in the Way trilogy; it's been quite a journey.

Lake
It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. If I’d known then what I do now, would I have kept on walking? Manning was older, darker, experienced—and I’d trusted him when he said the story would only ever be about us. I’d held those words close and challenged fate, but I had lost.

A part of me is still that sixteen-year-old girl squinting up at Manning, but no matter how far I fall or high I soar, I’ll always be a bird without her bear and nothing without him.

Manning
When I close my eyes, I can no longer see her. The decisions I made were to push Lake in the right direction—away from me. But now that she’s gone, would I have made those same choices?

I’d walked away like I was supposed to. I’d kept my distance. I’d bent over backward to keep Lake pure, but she’s no longer that girl, and I don’t know if I can stay away anymore. I only know I don’t want to. She’s still everything I want and nothing I should ever have, but if anyone can move the stars, it’s her great bear in the sky.

REVIEW + GIVEAWAY: The Final Fight by J.B. Salsbury

OUR REVIEW:

After reading a few novels that were a little slow to hook me, let me tell you, The Final Fight immediately grabbed my attention. I was curious about who this AJ person was and what she was doing in Las Vegas. Turns out she's an aspiring aerialist seeking her fortune and fame in the casinos. Also turns out that she's smart and funny and driven--a perfect partner for the equally smart and funny and driven military man, Braeden. These two met and the sparks flew...as did the humorous and lighthearted dialogue; they were so much fun to read.

So I was reading it. Laughing. Loving the characters. And then BOOM! some things shifted and anxiety immediately bloomed in my chest. Serious anxiety. I was so worried about what J.B. Salsbury was going to do to these two that I had to put the book down and step away for a few hours because the thought of them going through anything bad stressed met the fuck out. I liked them so much that I couldn't stand the heart hurts I knew I'd encounter...and I did encounter them. I think I had to tell myself to just breathe through those sections because they were hard. Thankfully, though, Salsbury found a way to heal our wounded hearts (and the characters too, lol) and by the time I got to the HEA I was so relieved and happy for AJ and Brae.

We've been readers of this series since the very first book came out and have loved all the fighters and their families, and while we'd love to see this series go on indefinitely, we suppose it's time for it to be retired. (Actually, we'd love it continued so if that ever happens, we'll be alll over it). Until then, we think you'll enjoy the emotional roller coaster of The Final Fight.

When life brings you the perfect person at the worst possible time…

On a weekend visit to Las Vegas to visit his brother, Marine Braeden Daniels meets a woman who challenges him in ways he can’t deny. The best part is she wants what he wants.

No strings. No feelings. Just fun.

AJ is a Las Vegas performer who is finally living her dream. Growing up poor, she’s determined to succeed at any cost. No one will stand in her way—not even a hot Marine who breezes into her life all confidence and a cocky smile.

A few stolen weekends and neither can deny the feelings quickly growing between them. But the obstacles that keep them apart become more devastating when the Marine Corps calls Braeden away for a six-month deployment.

It’s only six months.

What could possibly happen?
