Up in Smoke, an all-new gritty standalone romance from USA Today bestselling author T.M. Frazier is LIVE!
OUR REVIEW:
Shel: Smoke has been a character I've grown more and more curious about in the King Series, especially after reading Preppy's and Rage's book. We finally got to know the mysterious Smoke and the woman Frazier created as his match. Court: Right? T.M's ability to make us want more from every character she introduces is legendary at this point. Seriously, y'all...she makes each one so enticing and interesting in their own way...that we want more and demand it of her often. I'm just glad that she puts us out of our misery and keeps on writing!
Shel: Smoke's book definitely had those moments we know are going to happen in this series--suspenseful, gruesome, and intense--but I think I was surprised at the humor, especially with how crazy the beginning started. Frankie had a sassiness that continued to challenge Smoke and their entanglements were fun to read. I really liked their pairing; they found bits of themselves in the other, they were surprisingly more alike than not. Court: I agree. I like that we're given some levity to go with the intensity...because it helps get us through, but the humor these characters give us really makes them that much more real in our eyes, I think. I like all of the words you decided fit this best, but as always Frazier loves taking us right to the edge and seeing how long we can balance before pushing us off. It's a wild and crazy thrill, let me tell ya.
Shel: Once again, Frazier has taken characters whose violent actions would seem, on the surface, to be horrific and criminal, and she's given them nuance and depth and shown us that many times things aren't as black and white as the world would try to make it. And bonus, she gives us some scenes with Rage and Smoke, as well as some of our other favorite characters in the series. Court: I love reappearances of our favorites...and I also love how exactly like you said...we don't fault our characters their action as often as we should because she keeps a little bit of their humanity through their love story. What would in some ways be indescribable no matter what the scenario...we can justify a bit because we have something to want to fight for. And boy do they ever. So...check this one asafp ya'll, the gettin' is good with this novel and this author. We hope you'll love it as much as we do.
