Ketley Allison is back from a hiatus and she hit it out of the ballpark with To Have and To Hold.
We've always enjoyed her novels because they have such a nice mix of romance and suspense--she knows exactly how to have your turning the next page and keep you on your toes. To Have and To Hold elevated all of that a thousandfold. The suspense of trying to put all the pieces together--who took Emme and why--had me guessing until the very last 15% of the novel. I found myself trying to out-sleuth the sleuth.
In addition to the suspense aspects, she created a connection between Spence and Emme that not only drove the novel, it drove the characters to do almost superhuman things to try to end the nightmare of the kidnapping. My only wish is that we knew more about what, exactly, happened to Spence to push him to sever their ties. What the heck happened to him in his younger days that made him so protective of his heart?!
Ketley Allison's use of creep details and her understanding of how law and order work, combined with the suspenseful plot, has me eager to see what she'll write next.

SYNOPSIS:
He was my true love. Now, he's my only hope.
Spence was the one, my only free fall, my terrible heartache.
Me: shy, quiet, nervous.
Him: outgoing, intimidating, and wild, all the things I wasn't.
Such catastrophic connection couldn't last. We split apart--not separated, because that word is so gentle and we cracked in half--and I haven't seen him in two and a half years.
We aren't the same; we never were. I made it almost three years without him, I could make it longer.
I became, in one word, happy.
But then...
I was kidnapped.
TO HAVE AND TO HOLD is Ketley Allison's stunning new standalone novel that combines the heartwarming chance of finding lost love with the terrifying concept of being taken against your will. This thriller will heat you all the way through, then chill you to the bone.
