This friends to enemies to lovers romance is a good one, y'all, and it's releasing at peak summer reading time-- a perfect time to read it. Someone Else's Ocean is set in St. Thomas and the beautiful island backdrop is going to have you dying to go see it for yourself, if you're anything like me.
As with so many of Kate Stewart's novels, she blends emotional intensity, humor, and steamy romance which makes for an interesting read. The conflicts and issues the characters, Koti and Ian, were dealing with prior to their first run in weren't necessarily the first time I've come across them in fiction, yet still felt different and relevant in the way their particular combination worked. I really enjoyed the way these two interacted--they teased and snarked plenty but also were kind and supportive and sweet--they just really worked. Ian and Koti's friends and family also added dimension, conflict, and humor (and it'll be fun to see what happens with some of them in the next spin-off novel).
All in all, if you're searching for a beach read that is a nice blend of emotion and humor, Someone Else's Ocean is a good choice.
The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old and we shared a summer beneath the stars.
The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew. Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life’s cruelty, but we were planets apart.
We’d both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars...until we both got swept away.
